“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
OCTOBER - 2021

~The OCTOBER meeting was held Thursday 10/21/21 at 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion & called to order by Kevin Cardwell.  We are so glad that Kevin was able to be with us at the meeting after his recent surgery!!
~Thanks to the American Legion for a great bieroc dinner prior to the meeting. It is very much appreciated.
~It was great to have about 30 members, officers & guests present for the October meeting.  Welcome back to former member Rob Robinson - glad to have him back to the club.  Also good to see Dan Egger at the meeting  - one of our original charter members.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report.  All is well and our accounts are in good standing.  The roster has been
updated to reflect all members who have paid their dues.  If you have paid and you are not on the roster, please contact Steve so he can make any necessary corrections.  Our accounts are looking good & we have 'seed money' set aside to plan for the 2022 Showdown in the Valley Car Show.  We still have funds set aside for the rock for one of the Mulvane parks.
~Steve also reminded members that our breakfasts will resume at the American Legion and the 1st one will be Saturday, November 6, 2021 starting at 8:30am.  They will be just like prior years with Legion folks cooking and serving.  All club members, family & friends are invited.  Adults are $8 and this breakfast is worth every bit of that.  Kids under 5 eat for free.  We need at least 30 members to ensure we can continue with this fun activity.
~Member Dale Heckman announced that the Wichita Heights High School car show had a good turnout.  Thanks to the Marauders that attended.  He also presented a check to Cheryl for the Kansas Honor Flight.  This donation is much appreciated.
Please remember that Marauders members are benefiting from our donations to Kansas Honor Flight.  Member Tom Sparkman and his brother went on a flight September 29, 2021.  If you are a WWII, Korean or Vietnam Veteran or know someone who is, please contact Cheryl & Danny for information on signing up to go on a flight or go to kansashonorflight.org (you can complete the application online).  This is a trip of a lifetime for these Veterans.
~The club received a very nice note from the Donna Starbird family for the card that we sent to them.   Also received a nice thank you from Ronald McDonald House for our donation of pull tabs.
~Cheryl reminded club members about the 17th Annual KRUZ'N FOR KIDS CHARITY DRIVE THRU/DROP OFF TOY EVENT ON SUNDAY 10/24/21 FROM 11AM TO 1PM AT THE STAR LUMBER PARKING LOT AT 325 S. WEST STREET, WICHITA. Everyone is invited to join us as we collect new unwrapped toys and donations for TOYS FOR TOTS.  All participation and donations will be greatly appreciated as we serve children/families in need during the holidays.  All donations stay local.
~Cheryl also suggested that if members want to participate in the Cars for Charity Show in January, time is of essence.  It is recommended that you get your entries in as soon as possible to get a space.  Please let Cheryl know if you are going to enter & when you receive confirmation of entry.  BE SURE TO MARK THE CLUB PARTICIPATION SPACE WITH MULVANE MARAUDERS - IF YOU DON'T COMPLETE THAT PART, YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN THE CLUB SPACE & WILL BE PARKED AS AN INDIVIDUAL!!!!
~The Vietnam Traveling Wall will be in Valley Center October 21 - 25, 2021.  They are still in need of volunteers for this event.  Great way to donate some time and honor Vietnam Veterans.  Many Marauders are Veterans and several are Veterans of Vietnam.   There is a website for this event and the volunteer description is listed along with information on how to volunteer.  Another opportunity for the Marauders to support a great cause.

~Please remember the concerns of the club and those experiencing health issues and those who have recently lost loved ones. The Marauders Club is a "family" and we want to ensure we reach out to those in need whatever the reason.  Please let Cheryl know if you know of a member that needs a card for any reason.

~Kevin announced UPCOMING EVENTS:

*The Showdown Planning Committe will be meeting after the first of the new year.  We will need several folks to step up and take on several tasks/duties for this upcoming show.

*The annual Club Calendar was discussed.  Since it is so late in the year and so much would need to be done in a short amount of time to get them printed and to us by November - there will be NO Club Calendar for 2022.  Instead of waiting until late in the year, it was discussed that we could start this project anytime during the first of next year.  It is our goal to have a 2023 calendar and begin planning, contacting sponsors and taking photos throughout the year.  If you would be willing to help with this great project, please let us know.  Don Heersche has helped with this in the past and we appreciate his time and effort.  This project needs a committee - are you willing to help??????  We still need members to volunteer to help with the calendar project.

*At the September meeting we discussed doing something for residents at Villa Maria and Villa Court in Mulvane.  This project is still in the works and looks like it might be November 6 or November 13.  They would like to do an activity involving our club for residents and their families.  Watch the announcements for further details regarding this possible event.

*ALSO - WATCH NEWSLETTER REGARDING THE NEXT MEETING ON NOVEMBER 18, 2021!!  Steve is going to check with the F.R.O.G. Diner at the Methodist Church to see if the club will be able to volunteer and help hand out meals at the church.  IF we are able to participate, we aren't sure of the status of the November meeting.  We will keep you posted.

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned at 6:50PM.
