“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
SEPTEMBER - 2021

~The SEPTEMBER meeting was held Thursday 9/16 /21 at 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion & called to order by Kevin Cardwell.
~Thanks to the American Legion for another great dinner prior to the meeting. It is very much appreciated.
~It was great to have about 21 members, officers & guests present for the September meeting.
~Jevin McWithey with Maria Villa & Maria Court in Mulvane was in attendance to discuss the possibility of having a small car show/parade for the residents of these two places.  We did this some time ago and the residents always enjoy having the Marauders visit and show off their cars.  We talked about a few ideas and will discuss again at the October meeting. More to come on this club activity.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report.  All is well and dues have been paid for the new year.  The roster has been
updated to reflect all members who have paid their dues.  If you have paid and you are not on the roster, please contact Steve so he can make any necessary corrections.  Our accounts are looking good even after making sizable donations to our charities & we have 'seed money' set aside to plan for the 2022 Showdown in the Valley Car Show.  We still have funds set aside for the rock for one of the Mulvane parks.  One disbursement was made for the club post office box.
~Our 2021 Kansas Honor Flight golf team is ready to go play on October 4, 2021 at Sand Creek Station in Newton.  Our Marauders team will be Dale Heckman, Sue Heersche, Doyle Phillips & Earlene Phillips. Thank you for representing the club at this great charity event for KHF.
~Cheryl reminded members about the Riverfest Car Show on Sunday, October 3, 2021.  Still time to sign up for the Riverfest Car Show!  Member Jim Thomas is working with Riverfest and will be assisting with registration & parking.  If any member is interested in attending, please let Cheryl know so the Riverfest folks know how many to plan on.  Check out their website for show details & entry form.
~Cheryl also advised members of the recent passing of Donna Starbird & former member Gene Urban & the celebration of life for car enthusiast & former member Gerald Evans on Saturday, September 18 at 2:30PM at High Park in Derby.
~Member Dale Heckman previously announced an upcoming car show at Wichita Heights High School.  He is a teacher & coach at the school and is helping with this show to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Heights.  In addition to the show, many activities will be going on including a football game on Friday night.  The show will be Saturday,
October 9, 2021.  The show is on the club's website.
~At the June meeting member Jim Thomas reminded the club that the Vietnam Traveling Wall will be in Valley Center October 21 - 25, 2021.  They are still in need of volunteers for this event.  Great way to donate some time and honor Vietnam Veterans.  Many Marauders are Veterans and several are Veterans of Vietnam.   There is a website for this event and the volunteer description is listed along with information on how to volunteer.  It would be great to see the Mulvane Marauders volunteer for this very special event.  Another opportunity for the Marauders to support another great cause.

~Please remember the concerns of the club and those experiencing health issues and those who have recently lost loved ones. The Marauders Club is a "family" and we want to ensure we reach out to those in need whatever the reason.  Please let Cheryl know if you know of a member that needs a card for any reason.

~Kevin announced UPCOMING EVENTS:

Kevin reminded members that if they are interested in participating with 2022 Cars for Charity Show, it would be best to get your entry submitted by October or first of November.  It is expected that space will fill up quickly.  If you plan on attending this show, please Cheryl know so we can confirm how many members might be participating.  It was mentioned that one of our orginal club members, Ralph Henderson, will have a car in the Mag 7.
*Kevin also announced the car show at the Kansas Speedway for the Hollywood 400 to be held October 24, 2021.  Info is on the website.  If you are interested you can contact Clay, Marketing Director.

NEW BUSINESS
*PLEASE BE THINKING ABOUT THE NEXT SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY CAR SHOW AT THE KANSAS STAR CASINO.  Consider how you can help & be ready to volunteer!   We need every member to make this great show even greater!!!!  NOW IS THE TIME TO BE CHECKING WITH POSSIBLE SPONSORS - WE NEED SPONSORS FOR 2022 - PLEASE BE THINKING ABOUT FRIENDS, FAMILY OR ANYONE YOU KNOW INCLUDING BUSINESSES - THAT MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN GETTING INVOLVED WITH THE SHOW AS A SPONSOR AT ANY LEVEL.  WE WOULD BE THRILLED TO HAVE NEW BUSINESSES JOIN US AS WELL.  If you need information on sponsorship - contact us for details.
*The Showdown Planning Committe will be meeting in the near future.  We will need several folks to step up and take on several tasks/duties for this upcoming show.

*The club discussed giving $100 to the Wichita Area Council of Car Clubs to support & promote the 50th Lake Afton Car
Show in June 2022.  Motion was made and seconded to donate this amount for the 50th Anniversary Show.

*The annual Club Calendar was discussed.  Since it is so late in the year and so much would need to be done in a short amount of time to get them printed and to us by November - there will be NO Club Calendar for 2022.  Instead of waiting until late in the year, it was discussed that we could start this project anytime during the first of next year.  It is our goal to have a 2023 calendar and begin planning, contacting sponsors and taking photos throughout the year.  If you would be willing to help with this great project, please let us know.  Don Heersche has helped with this in the past and we appreciate his time and effort.  This project needs a committee - are you willing to help??????

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned at 7:00PM.
