“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
AUGUST - 2021

*****UPDATE - CONGRATS TO CHRIS MIDDENDORF FOR A GREAT 40TH ANNUAL OLD SETTLERS ROD RUN ON SATURDAY, 8/21/2021. THANK YOU TO ABOUT 30+ MARAUDERS WHO SUPPORTED THE SHOW.  HAD A FUN DAY & THE HEAT WAS TOLERABLE.  THANKS CHRIS!!!!!
~The AUGUST meeting was held Thursday 8/19/21 at 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion.
~It was great to have 28 members, officers and guests present for the July meeting.
~Thanks to the American Legion for dinner prior to the meeting.  It was very much appreciated.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report.  All is well and we continue to receive dues and expenses are taken care of.
Our accounts are looking good even after making sizable donations to our charities.  We still have funds set aside for the rock for one of the Mulvane parks.
*PLEASE BE REMINDED - DUES ARE NOW DUE!!!  DROP DEAD DATE TO PAY WILL BE THE OLD SETTLERS ROD RUN ON 8/21/21. IF YOU HAVE PAID, YOUR CHECK IS IN THE MAIL OR YOU HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS, NO ACTION IS NECESSARY.  IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID YOUR CURRENT DUES, TAKE A MINUTE AND SEND A CHECK - PAYABLE TO MULVANE MARAUDERS, P. O. BOX 151, MULVANE KS 67110.  IF YOU DO NOT PLAN TO RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP, PLEASE LET STEVE KNOW SO WE CAN REMOVE YOUR NAME FROM THE CURRENT ROSTER AND WEBSITE.
~Kevin announced that because of our donation to the Kansas Honor Flight, we would once again have a Golf Team in the KHF Golf Tournament on October 4, 2021 at Sand Creek Station in Newton, KS.   As of this date, I think our team of "4" is complete based on previous announcement at the July meeting.   As of this newsletter our Marauders team will be Dale Heckman, Sue Heersche, Doyle Phillips & Earlene Phillips. The 2019 team had a fun time and the tournament raises funds to send WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veterans to Washington DC to visit their war memorials.
~Cheryl reminded members about the Riverfest Car Show - to be held in October.  Member Jim Thomas is working with Riverfest and will be assisting with parking.  If any member is interested in attending, please let Cheryl know so the Riverfest folks know how many to plan on.  Check out their website for show details & entry form.
~Member Chris Middendorf let everyone know about the Old Settlers Rod Run - cars will be at St Michael's church once again.  Show is 8-2:00PM - there will be a 40th Anniversary quilt to be raffled along with some other items.  He will have some new awards for participants & food is available to purchase.  Participant judging.  Please keep his sister Tammy in your thoughts as she is dealing with cancer treatment - she has been with Chris and the show from the beginning.  And don't miss an opportunity to get "free advice" at the Marauders Old Geezers and spin the "Wheel of Misfortune".  All proceeds from these guys will be donated to the Kansas Honor Flight.  Great fun!!!
~Member Dale Heckman announced an upcoming car show at Wichita Heights High School.  He is a teacher & coach at the school and is helping with this show to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Heights.  In addition to the show, many activities will be going on including a football game on Friday night.  The show will be Saturday,
October 9, 2021.  Flyers were distributed and the show is on the club's website.
~At the June meeting member Jim Thomas reminded the club that the Vietnam Traveling Wall will be in Valley Center October 21 - 25, 2021.  They are in need of many volunteers for this event.  Great way to donate some time and honor Vietnam Veterans.  Many Marauders are Veterans and several are Veterans of Vietnam.   There is a website for this event and the volunteer description is listed along with information on how to volunteer.  It would be great to see the Mulvane Marauders volunteer for this very special event.  Another opportunity for the Marauders to support another great cause.

~Please remember the concerns of the club and those experiencing health issues and those who have recently lost loved ones. The Marauders Club is a "family" and we want to ensure we reach out to those in need whatever the reason.  Please let Cheryl know if you know of a member that needs a card for any reason.

~Kevin reminded members about upcoming events.  The Old Settlers Rod Run will be celebrating 40 years, Riverfest Car Show & the 2022 Cars for Charity Car Show.
*Mulvane Fall Festival on 9/25/21 from 5-7:00PM - Please let Steve Nichols know if you would like to display your car
with the club and for information regarding what time to be there.

"ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*A police officer stops a blonde for speeding and asks to see her license.  She replies in a huff, "I wish you guys could get your act together.  Just yesterday you take away my license and then today you expect me to show it to you."

*No matter how educated, talented, rich or cool you believe you are, how you treat people ultimately tells all.

*A Sunday School teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds.  After explaining the commandment to "Honor thy Father and thy Mother", she asked, "Is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?"  Without missing a beat, one little boy answered, "Thou shalt not kill!"

*A smart person knows what to say.  A wise person knows whether to say it or not.

*I will never understand women.  How you can take boiling hot wax, put it on your face, rip the hair out by the roots, and still be afraid of a spider?"

*Remember - regardless of what it is - with every choice, there is a consequence!

*Thought for the day - America will never be destroyed from the outside.  If we falter & loose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.  (Abraham Lincoln)

*BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER & PRACTICE RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS!!

*IF YOU HAVE A “CAR JOKE” (or any joke) OR A THOUGHT OF THE DAY YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE CLUB, PLEASE SEND IT TO CHERYL!   **Remember, it has to be ‘printable’!!!

NEXT MEETING WILL BE THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2021

Thanks Marauders and “Keep Cruisin”
