“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
OCTOBER - 2016

~Meeting was held Thursday, 10/20/16 and called to order at 6:40PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to the ladies of the Legion for another great dinner of bierocks and brats prior to the meeting.
~28 officers, members and guests were present.
~Please welcome our newest members - James Kates (Jerry Fletcher's brothe-in-law), Dave Creveling and Steve & Beck Preston recently relocated from California.   We are so glad to have these new folks and that they have chosen to join the Marauders.
~Cheryl reminded everyone that Jerry Krob and Dan Boyes were on the Honor Flight - another great reason we support the Kansas Honor Flight organization.  Two of our own members are benefiting from our donations.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report and advised the club that all bills/expenses have been paid in full.  For the most part all dues have been paid for the 2016-2017 dues year.  Only outstanding bill will be for the rock sign for a park (still to be determined) in Mulvane.  The new rock sign will not be placed at the new Mulvane library for a variety of reasons.
Steve reminded the club that the Showdown in the Valley trophies for 2016 were made by the shop class at Mulvane HIgh School which saved the club a great deal of money and they were great awards.  Steve visited with the teacher of that class and he indicated they could use some new saws.  Steve advised the instructor we would be willing to help them purchase two (2) of them.  At the meeting a motion was made by Don Heersche and seconded by Barry Burchett that we donate enough funds so the class could purchase (2) additional saws for them - for a total of (4) saws purchased for this class.  Motion passed and Steve will get the additional funds to the instructor.
~For the most part, the photo shoots are about complete.  Steve reminded the club that all photos and ad information needs to be to Envision by November 1 to provide them ample time for printing so we can have the calendars by the November meeting and distribution to those members who have ordered calendars.
A photo shoot will take place at the American Legion the day of the picnic and at Kistler's in Udall immediately following the picnic. If you are still interested in ordering calendars at $5.00 each, please contact Steve Nichols or Cheryl Boyes.  We realize this was a 'hurry up' project, but it will be fun having club calendars again and another good way to provide additional funds to the club for our charity work.  Thanks to all who stepped up and volunteered in a variety of ways to make this possible.  We truly appreciate your willingness to help !!  Thanks also to Kevin and Carl Fry for helping with the photography.
~Kevin shared that the Ken Cummings Memorial Award will be presented at the October picnic/dinner.
NEW BUSINESS
~Plans and reservations are being finalized for the Marauders picnic/dinner - to be held at the Mulvane American Legion on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 1:00PM.  We will need your RSVP so we know how to prepare - if you have not made your reservation, please contact Steve or Cheryl.  We would also like to use this event as a Membership Drive - if you know someone that really is thinking about joining the club, please invite them to this event as our "guests".  Members are welcome to invite other family members/friends, however, there will be a $5.00 per person cost to anyone who is not a Marauders member.  They will be serving BBQ and sides.  We will have "Potluck Desserts" - so each member is asked to bring their favorite dessert to share at the picnic.
~The American Legion will be having a chili cook off on Saturday, October 22, 2016.   All are welcome to this event.
~Kevin reminded members about the Club Breakfast - the first one will be Saturday, 11/5/16 from 8:30AM to 10:00AM.   There will be something good for everyone and the cost for breakfast will be the same as last time - $8.00 per person.   Let's support the Legion with these breakfasts and use the time to fellowship with one another and get acquainted with any new members who might attend.  To make these successful, we need about 40 people to attend each time - so you may invite family and friends.   Just give us a heads up if you are coming and/or bringing extra guests.
~Bob Barr & other club members are going to organize a Garage Crawl following our first breakfast on November 5.  If you would be willing to include your garage for this event/activity, please let us know so we can get everyone on the list.  We will then advise those of you participating with your garages the order of the visits.  We haven't done this for some time so it should be a lot of fun!
If you would be willing to be on the 'garage list' for any future garage crawls, please let us know that as well.
~Kevin advised members to check the website for upcoming events including the Haysville Show, the Arsenal Baseball Car Show, Larry Stember Memorial Car Show, donuts at Carlsons & Cruisin for Food/VA Thank A Vet Show.  All of these events including additional information for each one is on the Marauders club event section of the webpage.
~Cheryl reminded everyone about the 12th Annual Kruz'n for Kids Charity Car Cruise to be held Sunday, 10/231/6 from 1PM to 3PM at the Westway Shopping Center parking lot at Pawnee and Seneca to benefit the USMC Toys for Tots.  Thanks to everyone for their support and participation.
~Cheryl reminded members that NOW is the time to complete and mail entries & fees for the 2017 Starbird-Devlin Car Show January 2017.  Spaces fill up quickly and please remember that just because you are on the Marauders list of entries, that does not guarantee you a space in the show.  You must send in your entry ASAP to ensure you get a space.  Remember that spaces were full last year before the deadline for pre-registration.  If you are planning on attending and have sent in your information, please let Cheryl know so she can have an accurate count for spaces with the Starbird-Devlin folks.  If you have questions, please let me know.
~Welcome to Kevin Moore and the Early Ford V8 Club for visiting our meeting.
~If there is something you would like to see in the newsletter or have ideas for outings and/or events - please let us hear from you!

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned at 7:20PM.

NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY, 11/17/16 - AT 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion.

***UPDATE FROM KRUZ'N FOR KIDS & CHERYL:
The 12th Annual Kruz'n for Kids Charity Cruise was a HUGE success and thanks to the Marauders for helping make it the best ever.  There were cars everywhere and the weather was beautiful.  Not only were you generous enough to select - once again - Toys for Tots as one of the recipients of the proceeds from the 2016 Showdown in the Valley Car Show - your support at the show was absolutely amazing and Danny and I cannot thank you enough for your faithful and loyal support of the event, Toys for Tots and helping the children in our community so they might have a Merry Christmas and a bit of much needed Hope!   We are making a difference in the lives of these kids and all the other activities we participate in.  We collected almost 1300 toys & over $7000 in additional funds so the Marines can ensure that all children have a toy for Christmas.  And Kevin Cardwell is a great president and once again we had a lot of fun & 'friendly' competition in the club challege for Toys for Tots.
You are an unbelievable group of folks and I am so proud to be part of the car community and this club.  Thank you for all you do - and Save The Date for the 13th Kruz'n for Kids - 10/22/17!!
All of you mean the world to me/us - if you even need anything - please call me!!!!!

***UPDATE FROM THE PICNIC:
The picnic was a great day for food, fun and fellowship.   Many thanks to Diane and her helpers from the American Legion for fixing a wonderful BBQ dinner.  We had about 90+ members and guests and a great afternoon.  Kevin Cardwell won the raffle prize of the Marauders 50th Anniversary mirror and Dan Boyes & Brian Hedden won the 50/50 pot.  Also raffled off the flame awards from Showdown in the Valley.  And thanks to all members for bringing wonderful desserts.
Watch the newsletter for the Christmas party at the Legion!
