“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
JANUARY - 2019

~The January meeting was held Thursday 1/10/19 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.  Thanks to Diana's team for the dinner prior to the meeting.  We appreciate all their hard work & willingness to make our meetings extra special with a meal so we can visit & fellowship with one another.
~About 45 officers, members & guests attended the meeting.  Guest Greg Dochow was introduced to the club.  As always, we are glad to have guests.  Greg has an auto shop in Derby.
~Please welcome new member Curtis Miller of Clearwater to the club.  Be sure to introduce yourself to our new folks.
~Thanks for supporting the meetings - it's always great to see so many attend and participate.
~No additions or corrections from the December minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid & deposits.  Our balance is good - only outstanding bill is for the (2) City Park rock signs.  Our balance for January is the same as last month. After all the disbursements - all is well!!
~All calendars have been picked up and we have about 15 calendars left if you need additional copies.  Calendars are $5.00 each.  Once again, this was a great project and will provide additional funds for us to be able to help other charities.  Thanks to all who participated with us.  It was discussed that perhaps next year we make 2 calendars since so many have show an interest in being a sponsor.  Members were asked to think about sponsors for the calendar project and we will revisit this possibility at the March 2019 meeting.
~Members were reminded of upcoming events and car shows - be sure to check the club website, the Cruisin Calendar or the KEYN online Cruisin Calendar for upcoming shows and activities.  If you would like to be a ROAD CAPTAIN for any event, just let us know where & when you are leaving and we will let club members know so everyone can cruise together.  Car Show season isn't too far off - the new Cruisin' Calendar 2019 is available - and the club has some if you need one.  You can pick up one at a meeting or club breakfast.
ALWAYS CHECK OUT THE "REVVIN' IT UP" SECTION OF THE NEWSLETTER FOR UPDATES!!
*Cars for Charities Show in January 18, 19 & 20, 2019
*As of this date, we have 21 entries -  thanks to those who have entered the show - we will have a great time as always.
The show is always looking for volunteers - if you are not entered and would like to help out, please contact Cars for Charity and they will find a job for you.  The club received a nice thank you from Tom Devlin for the Marauders recent donation of $500.
*If you are in the show and do not have a Marauders sign to display by your car, please contact Cheryl.  IF you had one from last year, please bring it to the show and display it with your car.   The signs are 8 1/2 X 11 - so get a frame that will fit that size.
*If you have entered the show - please ensure you have given your shirt size to Cheryl so we can get our shirts printed.  Every member who has entered a car will receive a shirt and we ask that you wear them on Saturday of the show.  We will also be taking a group picture that day.  We will keep you posted on the time and location!
*The club will ensure that all stanchions, black rope, black duct tape, the banner, table, TV and club literature will be at the show.  Thanks to Steve Dale for offering to help get all our supplies to the show.  Cheryl will have shirts and signs on Thursday at the show.
*Please be at Kennedy Plaza off Douglas Street and ready to move in Century II by 10:30AM.

~Kevin announced that Bumper to Bumper will be a Corporate sponsor once again this year for Showdown in the Valley.  Everyone was asked to try and get additional sponsors for the show.  We will be having planning meetings for the next Showdown after the first of the year.  A huge THANK YOU to Bumper to Bumper for their continued support and sponorship of our show.

~We have new club shirts for $10 and Showdown in the Valley event shirts are available - limited sizes.  If you need a shirt, please contact Steve Nichols or come to the next meeting.  If you would like to have a club shirt in a specific color or need a jacket or sweatshirt, contact Kevin Cardwell at Shirts Plus.

~~~SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY UPDATE:
*MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE 21ST ANNUAL SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY CAR, TRUCK & BIKE SHOW FOR SATURDAY - APRIL 20. 2019!!!  The Show Committee has started meeting and making plans.  If you would like to be on the committee & help plan this great event - let any of the club officers know.
**We will have 1000 flyers at the Cars for Charity Show and plan on distributing to participants along with handing out vendor booth entries.   Lets visit with every vendor at this show and talk to every car owner about Showdown.
**We have TEAM CAPTAINS but we need VOLUNTEERS - please be thinking about how you can help out.  If you would like to volunteer for a team - please notify us ASAP.   Remember this is a "club " event and we need all members to continue to make this a great show & support our designated charities!!  CALL CHERYL OR STEVE IF YOU WANT TO JOIN A TEAM AND HELP WITH THE SHOW.   Our Charities are counting on each one of us!!!
***If you volunteered last year - please look for your orange volunteer shirt.  For new volunteers, please let Cheryl know what size shirt you will need.  We would love to have an army of 'orange shirts' helping at the event, it's impressive & shows everyone just how great a club we have & maybe encourage others to join our club.
**If you know of a vendor who might like a vendor stall at the show let us know or get a contract and give it to them.
**The Planning Committee will begin meeting tonight after the regular club meeting.
**The Hampton Inn has given us a great rate for car show participants - encourage folks to "Make It A Weekend" and spend the night at the hotel.
**Kevin and Steve will also be applying for a grant from the City of Mulvane Guest Tax Funds.  Last year we sold all hotel rooms and hope to sell all of them and more this year.
***CARS FOR CHARITY UPDATE:
*We had a great time at the Cars for Charity Car Show in January.  Thank you to the members and 21 cars that participated.  You were great ambassadors for the club and we made a lot of contacts with other car enthusiasts and clubs about our upcoming Showdown in the Valley Car Show.  Steve Nichols passed out flyers and vendor information to every car, participant and vendor at the show.  GREAT JOB STEVE - and thank you!!  The Thursday Night Cruisers from Salina parked next to us - and Steve visited with them and they have over 10 members signed up for the show and they have made room reservations at the Hampton Inn.  A few other folks from Hutchinson have also signed up for the show as well.  We are excited and on a roll - let's keep up the momentum!!  We appreciate you Steve and all you do for the club and those involved.  It was fun wearing our special Marauders shirts and taking a club photo on the "stairs" like we used to do - amazing how much fun we can have taking a group photo!  And a special thank you to Carl Fry for printing each participant a copy of the photo and bringing them to the breakfast on February 2.  The best part was seeing Carl and Bonnie, sharing a meal with them and catching up.
Would love to have more of you join us for the Cars for Charity Show January 2020!!
*CLUB DINNER UPDATE:  Our Club Dinner will be the Christmas Dinner/White Elephant Exchange.
*Steve announced there is a new ice cream shop in Mulvane - 'Lil Deuce Scoop' on Main Street.  He had some reward cards and handed them out to members.  The owners of this new business are anxious to see the Marauders at their business.  When the weather is warmer, perhaps we can cruise there after our meetings and do a cruise in later on.  They will offer a 15% discount for members after our meetings.
*An elderly man thinking his wife was losing her hearing, went about 20' behind her and asked, "Can you hear me
sweetheart?"
No reply.
He moved to 10' and inquired again, "Can you hear me honey?"
And again there was no reply!
A few inches behind her ear, he asked, "Can you hear me now dear?"
His wife said, "For the fourth time, YES!!!!"
*Man:  "Honey, on this Valentine's Day, I want to tell you something....  I'm not rich like Jack!
I don't have a mansion like Bill.   I don't have a Porsche like Martin.  But I do love you and
I want to marry you!!"
Woman:  "Oh dear, I love you too!!!  But what was that you said about Martin?"
Boy:  The principal is so DUMB!
Girl:  Do you know who I am?
Boy:  No
Girl:  I am the principal's daughter
Boy:  Do you know who I am??
Girl:  No
Boy:  GOOD & he ran away
