“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
OCTOBER 2017

~Meeting was held Thursday, 10/19/17 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.
~33 officers, members & guests attended.
~No additions or corrections from the September minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid, deposits (plus dues) - all bills paid to date. Balance is sitting good after all of our donations and aniticipation of other expenses that will need to be paid and of course seed money for Showdown in the Valley 2018!  It has been approved but we will still need to pay for the park sign and the donation to Mulvane High School.
~If you have any questions about your dues, please check the website or contact Steve as soon as possible. And if you still haven't paid, please mail your check to Steve Nichols, Treasurer, P.O. Box 151, Mulvane KS 67110.  Dues are done for the year - if you know of someone who would like to join the club, please have them contact us!
~We still have some 2017 Showdown shirts - XL ONLY - for $5 each.  We will have them at the next meeting and would like to sell them ASAP.  We also have Marauders club t-shirts for $10 each.
~We only have 10  large Marauder Metal Logo signs.  They are $30 each.  If you want one, let Steve Nichols know ASAP. It is a first come first serve.  And Steve is getting weary haulling them around!!!!  Great for your garage or Man Cave!!!!
~O'Reilly's Mulvane is now open!!
~Check out the website for pictures of the Club Dinner and other Marauders activities.
~Things are starting to slow down a bit but please check the website club events section - for upcoming car events & club activities. If you need an event posted, please contact Cheryl or Steve.
~Several upcoming events were announced including Douglass Hobo Happenings on November 18, Haysville Fall Festival Show October 21 & 22 and the 13th Annual Kruz'n for Kids Charity Car Show to benefit the Marines Toys for Tots program.  Cheryl announced that the event is ready to go and looks forward to seeing all the Marauders there.  Kevin reminded the members about the "Club Challenge" that raises additional funds for Toys for Tots & we have a lot of fun with other clubs as we challenge one another for most funds collected day of the event. The hat was passed to collect extra funds to help us the day of the show.  Steve advised members that a group will be leaving the Derby Walmart at 12:30PM to cruise to the event together & the Challenge would begin about 2:00PM.  We are making a huge difference for thousands of children in our communities!
~Steve reminded the club that our monthly breakfast at the American Legion will begin Saturday November 4.  Breakfast is served by Diane and the Ladies Auxiliary beginning at 8:30AM until 10AM - $8 for adults, 10 & under $5 and children under 3 eat free.  Remember we need 30+ members, friends & family to attend to keep this great activity going.  Great time to share a meal and fellowship with one another - and Phil Horner has opened up his garage afterwards for anyone wanting to cruise over there after breakfast!!
~If any members are willing and desire to be in the Wichita Veterans Day parade & need information about that, please contact Cheryl.  There will be some other car clubs in the parade - there is no entry fee but you must complete the appropriate form to enter.  The parade will end at WaterWalk where floats, cars and other organizations will be on display.  It would be great to have the Marauders represented as we honor our Veterans on this special day!!!   If you would be interested in organizing this event, please contact Cheryl.   Time is running out to register - if we don't participate as a club, please plan on attending the parade & this special Veterans Day celebration!!
~Cheryl reminded the club about the upcoming Food Cruise to be held Sunday November 12 - you can show up at Central and West and cruise to the Kansas Food Bank or meet there about 11:30AM.   The cruise will leave Central & West by 11:30AM.  After the Food Cruise everyone will leave and cruise to the Robery J Dole Veterans Medical Center for the "Thank A Vet" Show.  Entry to this show is $10 - food will be available to purchase and once again Mark's Meats will be providing the hot dogs and hamburgers.  All funds collected from entry fee and food will be donated to the TLC Unit at the VA to assist Veterans.

NEW BUSINESS
~MARK YOUR CALENDARS & SAVE THE DATE - SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY WILL BE SATURDAY - APRIL 21, 2018.  It will continue to be a 1 day show.  Be thinking about vendors and sponsors who might be willing to get involved with the show and help us out.
~We will have flyers ready & available before the Cars For Charity (Starbird-Devlin) Show and the next big Swap Meet in 2018.  We need major prize donations.  Be thinking about this & asking anyone who might be interested in helping us so we in turn can help our communities.
~Hopefully weather will be more favorable especially for outdoor parking and we have talked about adding a "Swap Meet" in the fenced in area outside of the Arena.  If you would like to be involved with that part of the show & planning - we would still be happy to discuss that with a member that would step up and be the "swap meet captain" & others who would entertain working on that committee.  Club member John Saindon would be willing to help give us some guidance & information on starting this new feature of the show.  This could generate added participation & funds for the club and our charities.
~The committee will continue to meet and make plans for the show.  If you have thoughts, ideas or suggestions, please attend a planning meeting or contact an officer.
~Cheryl reminded the club that the Cars For Charity (Starbird-Devlin)Show is January 19-21, 2018!  Also - 2018 will be the 60th anniversary of the Mulvane Marauders - which was established in 1958!   We had a great turnout & fun time when we celebrated our 50th at the Starbird Show - let's try to make a big celebration of this milestone for the Marauders and have a great turnout for the show. I think we could have a great presence there without spending a lot of money.  I have applications - and it is probably out on the show's website.  Let me know if you are interested and/or need an application.  $30 entry fee and deadline for the show is December 15.  Late fee after that date & the availability to enter is not good.
*We will need signs for each car participating with the information that it is our 60th Anniversary, our black stanchions, tape & rope along with the Marauders Club Banners.   If you have black end cap stanchions, please let Cheryl know so we will have ample stanchions for the club.  AND - if anyone has a bit of time on their hands - it would be great to have the big stanchions cleaned up & perhaps repainted.   Let us know if you would be willing to help out with that.  CONTACT CHERYL (685-6590 OR CHERYLABS001@GMAIL.COM)  IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING - SHE WILL ADD YOU TO THE CLUB LIST -- BUT YOU MUST REGISTER WITH THE SHOW TO ENSURE YOU HAVE A SPACE!!!!!
~Jack Marinelli is placing an order for the metal Marauders license tags.  We need ten (10) in order to place this order - if you are interested, please contact Jack or an officer and we will get your name on the list. They will cost approximately $25 each.
~IF YOU KNOW OF A MEMBER THAT HAS SAID THEY ARE NOT GETTING NEWSLETTERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND/OR EMAILS...PLEASE HAVE THEM CONTACT US!   IN ORDER TO KEEP MEMBERS UP-TO-DATE ON CLUB BUSINESS AND EVENTS, WE NEED TO HAVE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESSES.   THANKS FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS REQUEST!!

UPDATE FROM KRUZ'N FOR KIDS 2017:
What an amazing day and weather on Sunday October 22 - as I mentioned to everyone at the event it was NOT Lucky #13 it was the 13th Kruz'n for Kids because of all of you and a most generous car community & those who supported us with donations, auction items, door prizes & help that day.  We collected 1100 toys and about $7800!  Thank you to a wonderful, fantastic & caring  club & car family  - your support and confidence in our event does not go unnoticed!  Your generosity is more than I can comprehend - and the best part of all, Toys for Tots & thousands of kids in our community will benefit from your efforts and all you do!  We have provided not only toys so they can have a Merry Christmas but provide much needed love, compassion and hope for the future.  I am always at a loss as to how to adequately thank you for all you do - I have decided I cannot say or do anything that truly conveys what my heart feels for each one of you - all I can do is just say thank you from the very depth of my soul.   And hope you will join us as we already look forward to the 14th Kruz'n for Kids.  Thanks to those that helped day of the event, for doing the Club Challenge (which is an unbelievable part of the event), for being with us and for the donation to Toys for Tots from our car show.  I can't imagine doing any of this without all of you!
I saw a sign the other day and it simply said, "The secret to the gift of life is finding your purpose and then giving it away!"   We deeply appreciate you helping us find our purpose and then helping us give it away!  We will continue to help - even if it's just one toy and one child at a time.
With warm blessings and appreciation,
Cheryl & Danny Boyes
