“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
AUGUST 2017

~Meeting was held Thursday, 8/17/17 and called to order at 6:30PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.
~46 officers, members & guests attended.  Please welcome new member Jim & Lori Pernice of Haysville.  Jim was a member a few years ago and has rejoined the club.  We look forward getting to know you and glad you are part of the Marauders family.
~No additions or corrections from the July minutes.
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report including bills paid, deposits (plus dues) - all bills paid to date.  The balance reflected the checks/amounts that were presented to the four (4) charities that were recipients of the funds from the 2017 Showdown in the Valley car show.  Congratulations Marauders on success of the car show but most of all for your generosity in helping all these charities and those that will benefit from your hard work & dedication.  The club and all of you are great examples of 'giving back' to the communities where you live and work!!  All charities received an increase from last year's donations.
~Donation checks were presented to Kansas Honor Flight - Herb & JoAnn Duncan, Toys for Tots - Cheryl Boyes, Mulvane Children's Fund - Cara Leeds and F.R.O.G. Diner/United Methodist Church of Mulvane - Kris Carson and Glenda Schmidt.
The representatives from the charities were excited and grateful for the faithful support of the Mulvane Marauders as they continue to serve Veterans, kids and adults in our communities and state.  Reporters from the Mulvane and Derby newspapers were present to take photos and will include articles and pictures in their papers about the club and our donations.
~Steve reminded members that DUES are currently due in the amount of $25.   Please renew your membership ASAP so we can close out membership renewal for the year.  You can pay at the meeting or mail them to Steve Nichols, Treasurer, P.O. Box 151, Mulvane KS 67110.   If you are unsure if you have paid, check it out on the website - just go to members & click on the "click here".  There are still about 14 members that have not paid.  If you have any questions concerning membership and/or dues please contact an officer and we will be glad to visit with you.
~We still have some 2017 Showdown shirts - XL ONLY - for $5 each.  We will have them at the August meeting and would like to sell them ASAP.  We also have Marauders club t-shirts for $10 each.
~Club Dinner is scheduled for Sunday - September 17 - at 1:00PM at the Mulvane American Legion.  The dinner will be provided by Diane and her crew & will be a BBQ dinner and includes brisket, pulled pork and links and a couple of side dishes, water & lemonade.  The bar will be open for those wanting other beverages.  Members will provide the "Dessert Potluck" - so bring your favorite dessert to share with everyone.   Members are free, you can bring friends and family for $5.00 per plate - kids 3 and under are free.  Please contact a club officer to make your RSVP!!!  WE NEED YOUR RESERVATION BY SEPTEMBER 10!!
So far we have about 45 members for the dinner - let us hear from the rest of you for this dinner!!!!
~Chris Middendorf reminded Marauders about the Mulvane Old Settlers Rod Run that will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 8AM to 2PM.  Pre-registration is $12 and day of $15.  There will be participants vote again this year and Chris encouraged all Marauders to attend this great and longstanding show.    If you have questions regarding the show, please contact Chris Middendorf.
~The club was advised that they are still Cruising Douglas on the 3rd Saturday of each month.  At the time there is construction on Douglas - attendance may increase once the weather cools down & road construction is complete.
~Jack Marinelli announced an upcoming event at the Oxford Senior Living residence - W 21st & Maize Road area - on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10-12 noon.  Lunch will be provided to those willing to display their cars for the residents.  He will be leading a group from the Derby Walmart at 9:30AM.  They would like to have about 20 cars.
~There is a new O'Reilly's coming to Mulvane - might have an opportunity to display some cars for their grand opening.  We will keep you posted if that is possible.
~Lots of things are going on so be sure and check the website club events section - we try to post shows we constantly hear about.  If you need an event posted, please contact Cheryl or Steve.

NEW BUSINESS
~The Show Committee had a meeting and narrowed down dates for Showdown 2018.  The two March dates previously discussed will not be possible - March 24, 2018 was not good for the Casino and March 31, 2018 is NCAA March Madness and would not be good for attendance.  After considerable discussion the committee decided on Saturday, April 21, 2018 and the date was presented to the club by Kevin.   MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND SAVE THE DATE!!  It will continue to be a 1 day show.  Be thinking about vendors and sponsors who might be willing to get involved with the show and help us out.
~Hopefully weather will be more favorable especially for outdoor parking and we have talked about adding a "Swap Meet" in the fenced in area outside of the Arena.  If you would like to be involved with that part of the show & planning - we would be happy to discuss that with a member that would step up and be the "swap meet captain" & others who would entertain working on that committee.  Club member John Saindon would be willing to help give us some guidance & information on starting this new feature of the show.  This could generate added participation & funds for the club and our charities.
~The committee will continue to meet and make plans for the show.  If you have thoughts, ideas or suggestions, please attend a planning meeting or contact an officer.
~The American Legion will be serving breakfast prior to the Mulvane Old Settlers activities on Saturday 8/19/17 from 8-10AM.

~If there is something you would like to see in the newsletter or have ideas for outings and/or events - please let us hear from you!

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned.at 7:10PM.

NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY, 9/21/17, AT 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion.

*A plumber had just finished cleaning out a home's septic tankHe was still wiping off his hands when the owner said, "You always do such good work for us.  Is this the field you always wanted to go into?"
"As a matter of fact," the plumber said, "while I was apprenticing, I briefly considered medical school.  I wanted to be a neurosurgeon."
"What made you give it up?"  the owner asked.
Handing her the bill, he answered, "I couldn't afford the cut in pay!!!"
