“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
SEPTEMBER - 2016

~Meeting was held Thursday, 9/15/16 and called to order at 6:40PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.
~26 members and guests were present.  Thanks to the American Legion most members enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich dinner.  We appreciate the Legion for helping make our meetings so great!
~Steve Nichols gave the treasurer's report and advised the club that all bills/expenses have been paid in full.  We are still collecting dues and as of the meeting there were only about 13 members who had not paid.  We will be contacting them to see if they are going to renew.   If not, we will delete those members from the roster so we can wrap up dues/membership for 2016/2017!  Budget looks good for the remainder of the year and into 2017 when we start to plan for Showdown in the Valley.
~Guest Marilyn Pellegrini was introduced to the club.  She presented the upcoming Udall Fall Festival and Car Show to be held Saturday, October 1, 2016.  The show is usually held in the park but with the extremely wet weather, it may not be there.  Watch for signs as you enter Udall. Registration is 8-noon and awards willl be at 2PM.  Entry is $15.00.
~Kevin shared that the Ken Cummings Memorial Award will be presented at the October meeting.  Be sure to attend this meeting to find out who the recipient will be!
~Cheryl reminded members about the Bionic Burger/Wichita Area Chevelle Owners Poker Run on Friday 9/16/16 to benefit the Wichita Children's Home - final destination will be the Bionic Burger at 660 N. Ridge Road and all entries must be in by 7:30PM.
~Kevin discussed the Mulvane Children's Fund - they were seeking support and a donation for kids in need who attend the Mulvane grade school.  This was a charity we supported last year and they helped a lot of children.  Ron Stalbaum made a motion we support this group again this year with a $500 donation.  Seconded by Dan Boyes, motion passed.

NEW BUSINESS
~At the August meeting we discussed details for the upcoming Marauders Club Picnic!  After visiting with the Legion and Diane - it was decided that the picnic will be at the American Legion on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at 1:00PM.  We will need your RSVP so we know how to prepare - please contact any officer with your reservation!! Reservations must be made by the October 20 meeting so the Legion can have time to prepare.  We would also like to use this event as a Membership Drive - if you know someone that really is thinking about joining the club, please invite them to this event as our "guests".  Members are welcome to invite other family members/friends, however, there will be a cost to anyone who is not a Marauders member.  We will advise that amount in the next couple weeks or so. They will be serving BBQ and sides.  We will have "Potluck Desserts" - so each member is asked to bring their favorite dessert to share at the picnic.
Steve is checking into some entertainment - perhaps the Mentalist that was at Showdown.  Details to follow.
~Kevin discussed the Club Breakfasts - there was a concensus to pick a Saturday each month and keep with that date.  It was decided the club breakfasts would be held on the first Saturday of each month beginning with Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 8:30 - 10:00 AM.  There will be something good for everyone and the cost for breakfast will be about the same as last time - $8.00 per person.   Let's support the Legion with these breakfasts and use the time to fellowship with one another.  To make these successful, we need about 40 people to attend each time - so you may invite family and friends.   Just give us a heads up if you are coming and/or bringing extra guests.
~Bob Barr & other club members are going to organize a Garage Crawl following our first breakfast on November 5.  If you would be willing to include your garage for this event/activity, please let us know so we can get everyone on the list.  We will then advise those of you participating with your garages the order of the visits.  We haven't done this for some time so it should be a lot of fun!
~The calendar was also discussed and if we are going to do one for 2017 we need to get busy getting photos of the cars and organizing the ads with reminder calls.  Marsha Hills volunteered to call all the advertisers to see if they would be willing to participate once again. 1/2 month ad is $75 & a full month ad is $150.  This is a fun projet and makes some additional funds for the club and our charities. If you advertised last year and want your same month, please let us know ASAP!!!   We welcome all members to participate & volunteer to be in a photo shoot and especially members who haven't been in the calendar.  Please let any officer know if you would be willing to be in a photo shoot for the calendar.  We will arrange locations, number of cars and who will be at each location and move forward with this project. We also need photographers!!  If you would be willing to help organize this project,  PLEASE let us know.  We will get a quote and probably have Envision do the printing again this year.  They did a great job last year and we were able to sell them for a minimal amount.  Great Christmas gifts - be checking your list so you know how many you will want to order.  All of these activities and projects are great - but we need YOU to make them successful.   Please take a bit of time and volunteer to help us make the club the best it can be!!!!  We appreciate it and we appreiate each one of you!!!!
~Larry Lee reminded members they were invited to share in the fun and celebration as his wife Susan retires from the United States Air Force.  She will officially retire on Friday, 9/16 and there will be a celebration & party at the Legion on Saturday, 9/17.  Congratulations Susan and thank you for all your years of service to our country!

~~THERE ARE STILL A FEW MEMBERS THAT HAVE NOT PAID CURRENT DUES - IF YOU PLAN ON RENEWING YOUR MEMBERSHIP, PLEASE SEND YOUR CHECK TO STEVE NICHOLS, P. O. BOX 151, MULVANE, KS 67110 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  DUES ARE $25.00.  We are wrapping up dues & membership the end of September!

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned at 7:10PM.

NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY, 10/20/16 - AT 6:30PM at the Mulvane American Legion.  The Legion will be celebrating Oktoberfest and serving Bierocks & Brats with Sauerkraut.  Sandwich only - $5.00. with hot German Potato Salad or Fries - $6.00.     Can't beat a deal like that.  Serving begins at 5:00PM til the meeting begins at 6:30PM.

ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*A logging foreman sold a farmer a chain saw that he guaranteed would cut down 15 trees in one day.  A week later, the unhappy and disgruntled farmer came back to report that the saw must have been faulty and have a defect!
It averaged only 3 trees per day - what's the deal with this thing?
Curious, the foreman took the saw, pulled the cord and listened as it started.
"HEY",  yelled the startled farmer!!  "What's that noise?"

QUOTE OF THE DAY - "Some of us learn from the mistakes of others.  The rest of us have to be the others.
