“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
JANUARY - 2016

~Meeting was held Thursday, 1/21/16 and called to order at 7:00PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.
~About 30 members and guests were present and most enjoyed another great bierock dinner together prior to the meeting.  Thank you for your support and participation at the meetings, dinners and monthly breakfasts!  Let's keep supporting club events and the American Legion in 2016!!
~New member Larry Lee was introduced and welcomed to the club.  He and his wife Susan live in Derby and have a 2005 Ultra Classic Harley Davidson with side car.  A big welcome to the Lee's and we look forward to getting to know you.  Larry is also a member of the Mulvane American Legion.
~A thank you note was read by Max Ayers from the Kansas Honor Flight for our donation to them in 2015.
~Steve Nichols gave the recent treasurer's report and things are good for this time of the year.  However, still have the expense of the website update and will be starting plans for the 18th Annual Showdown in the Valley.  $500 was donated to the ARC to ensure all the advocates could go to the Starbird Show.  All calendars have been picked up and paid for by members.  We have 10 calendars left after after selling some at the Starbird Show.   If you are sitll interested in a calendar, please contact Steve Nichols.
~Kevin and Cheryl gave a recap of the recent Starbird-Devlin Show.  The Marauders had 11 cars participate and all those won awards.  In addition, Troy Pate, Jack Marinelli and Jerry Krob won special awards.
On a sad note - member Art Jenkinson was suppose to enter his new purple Cuda as a Mag 7 car but had to drop out as he had a fire in the engine of the car.   He's already ordering parts and working to get it back together!!!
We have been discussing some options for the club for Starbird-Devlin 2017 as it is the 60th Anniversary of the Starbird Car Show in Wichita and we would like to have a great turnout for that event.  Maybe order special shirts and do something fun for that show in addition to early entry.
~Kasey McDowell attended the meeting and gave the club a final update 'demo' on the new improved website with music, animation and smoke!   Looks great and thanks Kasey for all your work to finish this great new improvement.  Has lots of the same features it did along with new ones.  Remember Marauders, you can manage your own profile along with changes, adding pictures of your car and placing ads.   If you need a temporary password to set up your account, please let Kasey know.   All new members automatically receive a temporary password to set up their profile.  The new website will be changed over and go live around February 1.   Please give us your feedback and input as we want to continue to fine tune this process for all of us.

 NEW BUSINESS
~Kevin introduced Sonya Jackson from the Kansas Star Casino.  You will remember she is our contact person for Showdown in the Valley and it was great to have her back.   She welcomed the Marauders back to the Casino in June and let us know the Casino is looking forward to another great event together.   Thank you to the Kansas Star Casino for having us back.  This should be a great show as we have learned a lot and ready to start organizing.  Some new ideas are being discussed to increase participation for the "outside" car show.  One thought is to offer the chance for a BIG prize for those parking outside.   This could be a major draw to get folks to enter that part of the show.  Also discussing renting a big tent with tables/chairs so folks can get some shade and relief from the heat.  The planning committee is discussing lots of different things for this year's show.  If members have ideas, please let us know at a meeting or contact an officer.  We want to hear from you!
~Steve reminded members the next club breakfast will be Saturday, 2/20/16, 8:30AM.  Please feel free to invite family and friends or perhaps a perspective new member.  All are welcome for this time of fun and fellowship.
~Kevin announced that Richard Bartel with the upcoming Park City Chill has offered a large booth to the Marauders so we can advertise Showdown.  This is a great opportunity to feature our club and our show.  We will have passes for the volunteers that will be working the booth.  Each volunteer session will be about 4 hours - Friday AM and Friday PM and Saturday AM and Saturday PM.  As of the end of the meeting, we had at least 8 volunteers to man this booth.  THANKS MARAUDERS FOR VOLUNTEERING!  Steve Dale also offered to display his hot rod (Trixie) in the booth.   It was suggested that we not only have flyers and entry forms for Showdown but perhaps some apparel and maybe a powerpoint presentation to advertise the club and Showdown or have our website available for showing.   We will have the booth for Friday and Saturday only.
~Kevin suggested we might consider giving a shirt or hat to new members when they join.  We will try to move forward with this idea.
~The planning has begun for the Marauders Showdown in the Valley Car Show at the Kansas Star Casino.  As always, we need tons of help and member participation to make the show an even bigger success than last year.  Lots of car folks are already wanting to know when they can pre-register.  Please be thinking about YOUR part in these plans and how you can volunteer.   We need all of you to have another successful show!

~THE NEXT MARAUDERS BREAKFAST WILL BE SATURDAY, 2/20/16, 8:30AM AT THE AMERICAN LEGION.

~With no further business, meeting was adjourned.

NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY, 2/18/16 - AT 7:00PM at the Mulvane American Legion.

*True story........
An elderly Florida lady did her shopping, and upon returning to her car, found 4 males in the act of leaving with her vehicle.  She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her voice.  I have a gun and I know how to use it.  Get out of the car!!
The 4 men didn't wait for a second invitation.  They got out of the car and ran like crazy!!
The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got in the driver's seat.   She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition.  She tried and tried, and then it dawned on her why!!!!
A few minutes later she found HER own car parked about 4 or 5 spaces further down the row.  She once again loaded her shopping bags into the car and immediately drove to the Police Station.
The sergeant to whom she told her story could not stop laughing!  He pointed her to the other end of the counter, where 4 VERY pale men were reporting a car-jacking by a crazed & mad elderly woman described as white, less than 5 feet tall, glasses, curly white hair AND carrying a very large handgun.
After all the laughing, no charges were filed!
AHHHHHH, those senior moments............................

IF YOU HAVE A “CAR JOKE” (or any joke) YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE WITH THE CLUB, PLEASE SEND IT TO CHERYL!   **Remember, it has to be ‘printable’!!!

NEXT MEETING IS THURSDAY-- 2/18/16 - 7:00PM - MULVANE AMERICAN LEGION.
