“SMOKE AND GAS”
FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
SEPTEMBER 2015

~Meeting was held Thursday, 9/17/15 and called to order at 7:08PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion.
~About  29 members, guests and new members were present. Thank you for your support and participation at the meetings.
~Guest Mike Mistretta joined the meeting and we welcomed back Chris Middendorf who had recent surgery.  Great to see Chris feeling better and back at our meetings.
~Treasurer Steve Nichols gave the financial report and current balance. Had a recent deposit of $25 & made payment of $1000 for the sign for English Park in Mulvane.  Website payment will also be paid.  Steve also reported that Kasey McDowell, our webmaster, has a new job and hasn't had the availability to work on the new concept for the website.  The demo that was talked about for the September meeting has been pushed back to the October meeting.
~Calendar Update Report - Don H, Larry, Max, Steve and Kevin have taken on the calendar project - Thank you guys for that!
Ads are $75 for half a month or $145 for the entire month.  Members are encouraged to consider purchasing these ads for their own business or event to help support the club.  Photos to be taken at several places. If you are interested in having your car in the new calendar, please contact one of the committee members.  We need 3 - 5 cars per month. This will be a 14-month calendar and we will sell them for $5.00 each.  If we can sell the few remaining ads, that will pay for the cost of producing the calendar.   We only have 3 or 4 left.  Call and reserve yours or let us know if you have someone in mind that would purchase one.  Marauders will purchase June to promote the 2016 Showdown in the Valley at the Kansas Star Casino.  We need to stay on track to get the calendar done by Christmas. Kevin will check with several printers including Envision for the best price for printing.
~WE ARE HAVING A CLUB FAMILY PICNIC.  Event will be Sunday, 10/4/15 at the Mulvane Sports Complex beginning at 1:00PM.  This will be catered & paid for by the club.  Members need to bring their chairs & drinks of choice.  PLEASE RSVP to Steve Nichols or Cheryl Boyes no later than Monday, 9/28/15.  Motion made by Jerry Fletcher that the expense of the picnic not exceed $1000, seconded by Robin Gunter, motion passed.  Kevin will check with several BBQ caterers for prices.  We will have 2 meats, baked beans & potato salad.  SAVE THE DATE & MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!  Guests are welcome for an additional $5.00 per person - children under 5 will eat free.  AND....we will try to retrieve the "Hard Luck Trophy", spiff it up and award it to a Marauder who had a bit of "bad luck" this last year.  If you have a nominee, contact an officer.
~Upcoming Events:
Ron Bales announced the Final Friday Art Show, 9/25/15 in conjunction with The Rumble Car Show on S. Commerce on Saturday,
9/26/15
*Derby Auto Zone Show on Saturday 9/26/15 - Kevin suggested members try to support this event as this Auto Zone donated a lot of door prizes for Showdown and will probably do it again next year.
*Kevin & Cheryl reminded members that the 11th Annual Kruz'n for Kids event will be Sunday, 10/25/15 from 1:30PM to 3:00PM at Westway Shopping Ctr parking lot - Pawnee & Seneca.  Kruz'n is deeply grateful for the more than generous donation from Showdown - and it will go a long way to purchase a lot of toys for our kids.  Would still like to members day of the event.  Please come and join us - enjoy some music and watch the pile of toys grow!  Questions, call Cheryl or Danny.
*Trunk or Treat event in Mulvane on 10/31/15 to benefit the Arsenal ball team.
*There will be a car show in Udall this year on Saturday, 10/3/15
*Priority Motor Sports is also having another Open House - members are encouraged to attend & support this event in appreciation for Priority being our major sponsor for Showdown in 2015 & it was announced they will be doing it again for Showdown 2016!   Be sure and thank these folks for their support.
~Kevin suggested we discuss listing next year's show in Daryl Standifer's 2016 Cruisin Calendar.  It is probably time to "bury" whatever happend a few years ago & concentrate on moving forward and making this the very best club it can be - and growing our car show.  The concensus was confirmed - it's the right thing to do and will & can benefit the show.  The listing & information needs to be to Daryl by November 1.  Harry Funke had several great things to share & say about this - he believes we should do this so much he made a motion that we list the show in the Cruisin Calendar and he offered to pay for 1/2 of a small add in the book in addition to the 'free' listing.  Seconded by Jerry Fletcher, motion passed.   Harry offered to contact Daryl and get this set up for the club.
~Kevin suggested we resurrect the old "Road Captain" system for attending car shows and events together as a club.  Thanks to Don Heersche for doing that the last couple of shows.  This will be done strictly on a volunteer basis - if you are going to a show and would be willing to head up that road trip or event - let Steve or Cheryl know and they will list the show, date, time of departure and location.  This was always the most fun of going to show - traveling together!   Cheryl has volunteered to do that for Starbird-Devlin 2016.  If you are interested in attending this great show, please send me your name.  It is NOT too early to submit your entry and check.   We want to ensure that all who want to participate are included so we have the correct number of spaces for member cars.
~Kevin also discussed adding a Memorial Page to the new website in memory of all those members we have lost.  This would be a wonderful tribute to all of them.  And of course at the family's discretion.  This will be incorporated into the new web design.
~Marauders Breakfast - Kevin checked with the American Legion and they have offered to try monthly breakfasts for the club. In order to make this effective for the Legion we will need to have approximately 20 - 30 members attend.  It's a great place, very central location for most and gives us the availabilty to continue with this great fall/winter get together event.
~SAVE THE DATE -- WE HAVE CONFIRMED THE DATE FOR SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY AT THE KANSAS STAR CASINO. IT WILL BE SATURDAY - JUNE 18, 2016 - WHICH IS FATHER'S DAY WEEKEND.  IT WON'T BE LONG UNTIL WE BEGIN SOME PRELIMINARY COMMITTEE MEETINGS - BE READY TO VOLUNTEER AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE NEXT SHOW.  HOW ABOUT IF WE "DOUBLE" THE CAR COUNT????

~AND FINALLY - DUES ARE NOW DUE AND PAYABLE.  $25.00 FOR THE YEAR.  PLEASE MAIL YOUR DUES TO STEVE NICHOLS AT P. O. BOX 151, MULVANE, KS 67110.  THERE ARE STILL 30-35 MEMBERS WHO HAVE NOT RENEWED AT THIS TIME.   WE WANT YOU TO CONTINUE TO BE WITH THE CLUB - HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO RENEW, PLEASE LET US KNOW SO WE CAN MARK OUR RECORDS.  WE DO APPRECIATE YOUR HELP !!!
QUESTIONS - CONTACT STEVE NICHOLS.

ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*Three friends married women from different parts of the country.  The first man married a woman from Alabama.  He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning.  It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.
The second man married a woman from South Dakota.  He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes AND the cooking.  The first day he didn't see any results, but hte next day he asw it was better.  By the third day,  he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was huge dinner on the table.
The third man married a girl from KANSAS.  He ordered her to keep the house clenaed, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry wased, and hot meals on the table for every meal.  He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed eough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.  He still has some
difficulty when he goes to the bathroom.
~~Don't mess with those Kansas gals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
