FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS
JULY 2015

"CONGRATULATIONS MARAUDERS ON A GREAT SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY AT THE
KANSAS STAR CASINO"

~Meeting was held Thursday, 7/16/15 and called to order at 7:00PM by President Kevin Cardwell at the Mulvane American Legion. Thank you to Scott Hansen and Doug Horstman for making arrangements for us to meet in this very nice facillity and in the A/C.  It was great and we appreciate their willingness to let us meet there.  We are going to check about having future meetings there as well.  We will keep you posted!!!

~About 40 members, guests and new members were present. We have been having good attendance at our meetings.  Keep up the great work and those who haven't made it out to a meeting, we would love to see you too!

~New member Heather Williams of Heather Lane - was not present but has joined the club.

~Max Ayers gave the updated and current treasurer's report - our balance has never ever looked so GOOD!!!  The financial results of Showdown were given & what a huge SUCCESS we had for this first show at the Casino.  Not only will the funds help the club and our members, but the 3 charities will benefit significantly.  A comparison of the bank balance at the beginning of May 2015 and after the show was GREAT.  Max is still finalizing the figures for the show including any outstanding expenses for the show or general club expenses.  Max noted that we had 22 paid vendors, 29 trophy sponsors including several club members, and 24 t-shirt sponsors.  There will be a FULL accounting & breakdown of all finances - expenses & income -  of the show at the next meeting for all club members to review!  We want this information available to all members as it is not only good business practice but to ensure the obligations have been fullfilled!

~Kevin gave a recap of the 2015 financial obligations.
The park sign for English Park/Mulvane will be set in late August.
We will be doing a Marauders "catered" picnic - stay tuned for details!  Time, date & location TBD!!
A calendar is still in the works and Don Heersche is still wanting to know if you would like to participate.  Contact Don if you haven't already signed up. NOW is the time to get started so they will be ready by early fall & Christmas!
Kevin discussed the Marauders website and the need to get it more updated.  We have just put on a FIRST CLASS show and need a website to match that image. Kasey McDowell our webmaster will begin working on updates.  Steve Nichols will get about 3 -4 members together and visit about/review ideas for our webpage.  Members - if you have ideas or look at other sites that are outstanding,,,share those ideas and sites with us!  It was moved by Doug Horstman and seconded by Steve Dale to allocate up to $1000 for this update. Motion passed.
Insurance is payable along with the LLC reporting.

~ WRAP-UP OF KANSAS STAR/SHOWDOWN IN THE VALLEY SHOW:
HUGE THANK YOU to all members & spouses who volunteered to make Showdown such a huge success.
HUGE THANK YOU to the the small group that met every week since the beginning of this new Showdown venture.  they met tirelessly every week and committed to make this show one to remember - and it was!
AND...a HUGE THANK YOU to Sonya Jackson, our contact person & Dan Ihm. the new CEO from the Kansas Star Casino - they were great to work with and Sonya went WAY beyond the call of duty.  It was moved and seconded to purchase a restaurant gift card and present it to her as a small token of appreciation for she did for the club and show.   They could not believe how the club cleaned up afterwards.  Their building maintenance person was shocked when he went to 'clean' up and see how we had left the facility.
WE WILL BE INVITED BACK and have "penciled" in the Saturday of Father's Day weekend for 2016!!  We will be locking in that date with the Casino and they are excited to have us back - we did meet and exceed their expectations.  The food/beverage figures were up 40% for the day.
We will be visiting with the Casino folks in the near future as to their "support" intentions for 2016 including advertising, printing and any other expense they took on for this year.   Next year we will have ample time to be listed in all of their calendar of events publications.
Kevin, Cheryl & others visited with every participant and every vendor the day of the show.  All seemed very pleased with the show and will join us again next year.
We had between 230-240 cars/bikes this year - including the Marauders.  Next year we would like to have more motorcycle participation AND increase the car count even more!
After much discussion on our income and our expenses - a motion was made by Jack Marinelli & seconded by Steve Dale to allocate $2000 to each of our three charities - Kansas Honor Flight, Kansas Food Bank/Backpack Program & Toys for Tots/Kruz'n for Kids.   Motion passed.  We will be arranging to have a reprentative from the different charities come to a meeting to present them with our donations.  The presentation for Toys for Tots will be made at the Kruz'n for Kids event on October 25, 2015.  We would like to have some good exposure for the club so everyone can see what and who we were raising money/funds for.   Next year we need to do more to ensure everyone at the show knows where the funds are being used for.   Signage in the foyer where the charities are displayed and announcements throughout the show will confirm to folks this is a charity show.   Per Jared Ayers, volunteer for Kansas Honor Flight, they raised $750 in donations from spectators visiting with them throughout the day.
Members all agreed that participants truly did appreciate the free water that was handed out all throughout the show.  Thank you members for your kind & generous donation of the cases of water - it was a hit and made a lasting impression on our guests.  And thanks to those members who were going out on the golf cart to pass it out.  What team work!!
+++We will continue to keep you updated on results of the show and other details - and don't get too comfortable as it will soon be time to start thinking about the NEXT Showdown in the Valley.
If you took pictures at the Show, please share them with us and Kasey our webmaster so we can get them posted in the Photo Gallery of the Website.  Thanks to Lee Green for taking some great pics and getting them to us to post.  We are still looking for others.
THANK YOU MARAUDERS - AND TO QUOTE ANOTHER MEMBER RIGHT AFTER THE SHOW..."I TOO AM PROUD TO BE A MARAUDER!!"

OTHER NEW BUSINES & EVENTS:
~Glenn Carr House/Derby - 9/26/15, 1-6PM

~Chris Middendorf discussed Mulvane Old Settlers Car Show for Saturday, 8/15/15 from 8-2:30PM.  Thinking about doing the judging a bit different this year - but still might need the Marauders for that process if it isn't changed and request the club's participation to make this another great successful show for Old Settlers.  The show will be at St. Michael's Church and ask everyone's help with ensuring we end the show on time and all cars are out of the church lot BY 2:30PM.  Chris has done a fantastic job over the years putting on this show - we appreciate you Chris!  This show will be dedicated to Chris' dad who passed away in February 2015!  He helped Chris over the years by doing whatever he could and always selling the pop!  We will miss seeing him !!

~Arsenal Baseball team is doing a "Trunk or Treat" car show on Halloween, 10/31/15 in downtown Mulvane.

~Blacktop Nationals 8/21/15 - 8/23/15.  For more information, contact Jim Petty at the BTN office - 425-6767.

~David Wolfe with the TV Show, Hotrodding American Style contacted Kevin about the Marauders participation to video tape an event on September 12 featuring a few old time Marauders and other local guys in a 'round table' discussion format.  (It was determined that was not a good date for most of these folks because of the Starliner Car Show that most of them attend.)  The idea of the discussion is comparing the hobby now and 'back in the day'.  The participants would not be all Marauders but the TV show wants to use our club as the 'back drop'.  That would be good exposure for the club, but this has to benefit our club as well.  We should not be out anything to put this on including a location that is agreeable to everyone for the event to take place.  The location should be a 'neutral' place and not benefit anyone else !  It was mentioned that perhaps the Mulvane American Legion would be a good place as it has ample parking cars/hot rods and a great meeting room with a Marauders banner in the background.  Provided that is agreed upon with the Legion.   This discussion ended with an agreement that we would 'consider' this idea if certain specifics and criteria was met. In addition to the history of local "hot rodding" , it could do a small bit of the history of the Marauders - which was established in 1958.  Kevin will contact David with these ideas and perhaps a change of date.

~THANK YOU to Don Heersche for organizing the club members that participated in the Mulvane 4th of July parade at noon in downtown Mulvane.  After the parade they had a car show of about 21 cars at the old depot.

~We truly appreciate members who step up and help with these events!!!!!

ON THE LIGHT SIDE smiley
*A husband and wife were driving through Louisiana on vacation.   As they approached Natchitoches, they started arguing about the correct pronunciation of the town.  They argued back and forth, then they decided to stop for lunch.  As they went into the restaurant and got to the counter, the husband asked the blonde waitress, "Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us?  Would you PLEASE pronounce where we are very slowly?"
The waitress leaned over the counter and said, "Burrrrrr-Gerrrrrrrr Kiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnngggg!!"
Blondes just don't get any respect.........................................
