“SMOKE AND GAS” FROM THE
MULVANE MARAUDERS

FEBRUARY 2015

~Meeting was held Thursday, 2/19/15 and called to order at 7:00PM by President Kevin Cardwell.
~There were 35 members present.
~Kevin announced that Chris Middendorf's dad was in Hospice care and ask everyone to remember the family in their thoughts and prayers.
~New member Dan Dennis was introduced to the club.
~Max Ayers gave the treasurer's report and advised that he had paid a bill for our webmaster Kasey McDowell in the amount of $360 and that our Hagerty club insurance would be due in March in the amount of $350.
~The Marauders took 3rd place for clubs at the 2015 Starbird-Devlin Show.
~Kevin read a thank you from Carl Fry for the club's support in helping 42 folks from the ARC be able to attend the event.  Kevin gave them t-shirts and again they had a great experience with the help of the Marauders.
~The Directors of the Starbird-Devlin Show also thanked Carl Fry, John Fry, Mike Rickords and the club for their continued support and volunteers.
~Kevin discussed the Park Signs we have been donating in the last few years.  We did not donate a sign in 2014 so he suggested that since we usually donate $500 per sign per year, we take the 2014 and the 2015 donations and buy a larger sign for the biggest park in Mulvane - Charles English Park.  After discussion, Jean Horstman made a motion that we purchase a larger sign for this park that would be highly visible to all who use the park & pass by it.  Seconded by Don Heersche, motion passed.  Kevin will get with the rock sign contact to begin the process.
~The Mulvane Marauders Car Club has a very special and unique opportunity for their annual Showdown in the Valley Car Show this summer.  We have the great opportunity to have the show at the KANSAS STAR CASINO. Because of the time and the Star needing to have some idea of our intention, some of the officers and members have already discussed these plans with the Casino.  Some have thought that our annual show has become stagnant and a bit boring and we have been looking for a gimmick or something special to increase car count and in turn increase revenue for the club.  Extra revenue would mean we could help more charities and those in need.  The Star approached the club so we have tentatively had a meeting with them and set a date of Saturday, June 20, 2015.  This date works for them so they can promote another event in conjuction with the car show and is only one week after our normal June date.   They would provide the Indoor Arena and the outdoor lot at NO CHARGE.  This is truly a value that would be hard to give up.  They will do most all of the marketing but the club would still want to hand out flyers at car shows to ensure all car enthusiasts know what we are doing this year.  They would also provide an indoor stage and lighting.
The date of 6/20/15 is the Saturday before Father's Day and the Zoo Show and one week after the Lake Afton Car Show.  This was the best date possible and still gives us the least amount of competition on that particular Saturday.  There will be certain things and policies we will have to abide by but nothing that will prevent a very successful show and attendees having a great time.  Concessions will be available and car entrants will be allowed access to the arena for facility purposes as well.  We will have access to all public areas however anyone under 21 cannot be admitted to the gaming area.  And no alcohol permitted!
It was thought we could try this kind of show for 2015 and then make decisions for future shows based on the outcome of this event.
About 6-8 officers and members got together to discuss what we have to present to the Casino and what they expect from us.  Of course, they want us to bring people to their venue and put on a first class show.  The Casino and/or the Star have no guarantees either way, but those involved think it is a great risk to take.  For those cars parking inside the arena they will probably have to be moved in on Friday night.  If we use the full arena floor without too many vendors we should be able to accomodate approximately 50-60 cars or so.  The outdoor lot is the one south of the arena.  The specifics of these details have yet to be determined and worked out.   This process is in the preliminary process as of this meeting.  The Casino sends out about 70,000 notices by mail, email and other means for upcoming events and specials.  6,000 folks come to the Casino each day.  The exposure is great for them and for the club.  The Hampton Inn also advertises events that are going on at the Casino as well.
We thought perhaps we could ask the assistance of their Graphics services for some of our artwork to advertise the show.  Had been mentioned that perhaps car owners would receive a discount on some food and some other "perks".  The time of the show was suggested for 10AM to 6PM but after club discussion that might be a bit too long for a car show.  All of these details including the registration fee for inside and outside entries is yet to be determined too.  Pre-registration will probably be encouraged since we those cars would have to be moved in prior to the Saturday date.
The current Casino CEO has had some experience with shows at the casino at other facillities.   Would like for the the Kansas Star to have an award pick in addition to the other awards we will be giving out.
The Marauders will have to have proof of our insurance.
Vendor booth space would be a great means of additional revenue for us inside the Arena.  We could perhaps sell these areas for about $200 per space and invite tire stores, insurance agents, restoration businesses, car parts and anything else related to the industry.
This is still going to be a great deal of work for the club and members - having it at the Star will not alleviate the club from just as much work as in the past.  We will also need quality door prizes & Kevin is asking everyone to start on that right now.
The discussion at hand still revolves around the club members and being "hosts" for this show - which would include the issue of club members getting awards & taking the parking spaces inside.  The concensus is that the club still HOST this event - this is once again a perfect opportunity to show others what we are made of and that we want to put on a great show and not be recipients of the 'perks' in any way.   This issue will be discussed further at the next meeting.   This is an opportunity to 'start over' and make a great impression on our fellow car folks.
We will try to send Special Invitations to all the area car clubs and some of the ones to the south and in Oklahoma.
After extensive discussion a motion was made by Mel Boling & seconded by Ron Bailey to accept this opportunity to have Showdown in the Valley at the Kansas Star Casino on Saturday, 6/20/15.  Motion passed.
We need to begin soliciting t-shirt and trophy sponsors and collecting door prizes.
We will consider trying to secure a "big ticket prize" for that day as well.  If any club member knows someone or a business that would DONATE this kind of prize, pleast visit with them or let us know.
The Casino will send all the information to their legal department and let the club know as soon as this is complete so we can sign that contract and proceed with this great event.
The judging will be another big step for the club - how do we want to handle that and stay within the confines of the show and how many hours we will be there.  It was suggested we get independent judges and not club members to help us with this part.
Kevin also suggested that we consider inviting Daryl Starbird and allow him to bring one car from the museum to put inside the arena.  He in turn could share our event with lots of others in Oklahome and perhaps we could pick up cars/entries from there this year.
The Marauders are known for being very generous in our communities and this show will help us to be even more visible within those communities.
As soon as we get the okay from the Casino - we need to start advertising and putting out Save the Date information to others including KEYN and Mike Berry with the WOW page of the Eagle.

NEW BUSINESS & MEMBER DISCUSSION:
WE STILL NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS PROJECT - PLEASE CONSIDER BEING THE CHAIR OR CO-CHAIR OF THIS MONEY MAKING PROJECT FOR THE CLUB.
~CALENDAR FOR 2016 -- Kevin once again discussed having another calendar like we did a couple of years ago.  This was a great money maker for the club and members seem generally in favor of it again.  Great fun to see members cars on this calendar.  Some additional details were discussed including the idea of selling ads for the calendar which would offset the expense of creating the calendar.  We still need a chairman or a couple of folks to co-chair this project.  If you would be willing to volunteer and help the club with this please contact Kevin or one of the officers.  Remember, we aren't throwing you to the wolves and not willing to help, we just need someone to step up and at least be the center of this project and get it organized. Kevin had previously asked for a chairman to head up this endeavor.  As of this meeting there were no volunteers.  We are waiting for your call.......................  Thank you!!

"Impossible", says the doctor.  "Show me."
She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony.  She pushes her knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams and so it goes on and on, everywhere she touches makes her scream more and more.
The doctor says, "You're not really a brunette, are you?"
She says, "No, I'm really a blonde!"
